First of all we were present on our UK distributor Avocet’s booth at the UK Cycle Show at the NEC in Birmingham. This was the first year for the show in its new location and it felt pretty cavernous at times, but the space was nice compared to the hustle and bussle of the previous London shows, and the crowd was certainly a healthy size and more representative of the British Isles; and the test track was excellent (also helped by the weather being absolutely stunning).

After that we were present on the Adria booth at the Caravan and Motorhome Show. Adria were giving away a free Bigfish with every motorhome purchase.  And I’m delighted to say they did rather well.

Fortunately I managed to avoid telling people “we’re giving a free motorhome away with every Bigfish bike”. Wouldn’t have gone down well. At all.

Thanks to everyone who came along to say hello and we’re delighted that you’re as excited as we are about our next generation Bigfish, the Line and Wave (due out next year)!

Londoner Jamie Cowen was so moved by the YouTube footage of the young Malaysian student, Ashraf Haziq - who was filmed after being beaten up, and as helped to his feet was openly robbed by the same people – that he decided to positively demonstrate the UK public’s support for Ashraf and other victims. Cowen created a wonderful campaign called Let’s Do Something Nice For Ashraf that received widespread support throughout the UK and beyond.

Upon hearing that Ashraf had also had his bike stolen in the incident, we at Bigfish immediately decided to donate one of our folding bikes to him.

“It’s so nice to see something different on the market”

This was an oft-heard phrase from visitors to our stand, last week at Europe’s largest cycle trade show, Eurobike (view Flickr photoset)

The big news from Bigfish is that we are extending our line of folding bikes in 2012, and we were showcasing the new bikes at Eurobike. The new models will be called Bigfish Line and Bigfish Wave, and we will also be bringing out an e-Bike. All the bikes have a totally new way of folding, via a system that is notably different from any others on the market. We have called it ‘Smart Folding technology’ – the reason is self-explanatory!

One of the most exciting things that we learnt at the show is that, contrary to almost all other folders, there is no right or wrong way of folding the Bigfish Line… you can do it in any order.

At 18,3 kg, and with a small Sunstar motor fitted to the Bigfish Line, our e-Bike will be one of the lightest and most compact electric folding bikes on the market. Sunstar’s centrally-located motor allows perfectly-balanced handling and the integrated torque sensor provides smooth acceleration.

Bigfish recently visited Seville to participate at the Velocity 2011 conference and when not in sessions really enjoyed cruising around Seville’s bikeways and streets. Seville is becoming a real cycling friendly city. 100 kms of new bikeways have been built, and daily bicycle trips increased from 6,000 to more than 66,000!
